Whelp, the Kindle 2 has been announced, and against my budget I just had to plunk down some money and get me one. It’s updated looks make it appear almost like an overgrown iPod with a keyboard of round buttons stuck on the bottom. It’ll have more memory built in and even a rudimentary text-to-speach engine built in (nice, but not audiobook quality like you’d get from a real person). But perhaps the biggest single thing I’m looking forward to is the improved screen: 16 shades of gray (v. 4), and faster refreshes (literally in the blink of an eye now instead of 2 blinks).
Once I get it I’ll write up more, closer to when I get it than when I got the original kindle, I swear!

How long do the batteries last on the new Kindle 2?
Depends on if you have wireless turned on or not. With it off it lasts for more than a week of reading.A few days with wireless turned on.
